DESCRIPTION AND USES
Zinsser® Danish Oil hardens in the wood, not on the wood. Zinsser Scandinavian Oil is a unique blend of penetrating oil & varnish that stains, seals and protects in one easy step. Scandinavian Oil penetrates deep into wood pores to protect from within and to enhance the natural look and feel of the wood. It creates the rich, warm glow of a traditional hand-rubbed finish. Zinsser Danish Oil will not chip, peel or wear away. Many projects can be completed in less than an hour - simply brush or wipe on and wipe off.
Recommended For: Furniture, trim, moulding or any bare wood interior surface.
Not Recommended For: Floors or exterior surfaces.
Remove any existing finishes with sandpaper or liquid stripper. Prepare bare wood for staining by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with 120 grit sandpaper and progress through 150 and 180 grits. Before staining, remove all sanding dust, dirt, grease or glue with a vacuum, or clean rag dampened with mineral turps.
Be sure to test your stain to verify the desired colour. To test, apply the stain in an inconspicuous area.
Pre-treat soft woods, such as pine, by lightly wiping the wood’s surface with a cloth moistened with Zinsser Scandinavian Oil in Natural. Immediately wipe the surface completely dry and proceed with testing Zinsser Scandinavian Oil for colour on hidden section of wood.
Use on dry wood from which all previous coatings have been removed. Sand wood smooth and wipe clean. SHAKE CONTAINER THOROUGHLYand test for colour on hidden section of wood. (NOTE: To ensure uniform colour and/or appearance, complete the entire project with the same stain colour as shown on the front of this label.) Flood surface using brush or cloth, applying additional finish to areas that absorb all of the liquid. Allow to penetrate for 30 minutes.
RECOAT & TOP COAT
Reapply, allowing an additional 15 minutes penetration. Wipe surface completely dry. Ready for use in 8-10 hours. If a topcoat such as a polyurethane is desired, allow Zinsser Scandinavian Oil to dry 72 hours before applying.
Apply fresh coats as needed to repair surface scratches and remove minor stains. Burnish affected area with fine steel wool or 220 grit sandpaper, then apply the colour of Zinsser Scandinavian Oil originally used to finish the wood.
